Tapper User Notes

This applies to both the HHSC-1x1-TP and the HHSC-2x1-TP.

The tapper devices detect light reflected from the underside of the top surface membrane, under the gray square. The reliability of taps is dependent on a few factors.

First: sensitivity is highest near the center of the gray square.

Second: the finger tip must fully leave the membrane between taps.

Third: the tap must have enough force to move the membrane slightly, but if too much force is applied the membrane (and reflector) can become deformed and that can cause it to stop working or to work less reliably.

Fourth: The tapper may only work reliably with either the long removable bundle connected or with a spacer to introduce losses. That is: it may not work correctly when connected directly to the interface unit.

We recommend training subjects with the tapper prior to collecting data from it.
