Optical Spacer Notes

You may have received one of these and you may have wondered what it is for:

These are spacers that you can use to simulate the optical losses that would be introduced if you had a longe optical bundle in place. It goes over the optical connector on the interface unit and keeps the connector on the response device from going fully into place.

You should only use this spacer in situations where you have the response device connected directly to the interface unit. Typically this would be when you are working on a new set of scripts for a task, or possibly when testing subjects outside of the scanner.

Our devices are designed to work well in the MRI and MEG settings where the long bundle extension is installed. So in some cases the optical signals will be too strong if no bundle extension is in place. The spacer is provided to help with that situation.
