Replacing the O-Ring on a Scroll-Click Device

This image shows the inside of a scroll-click device:

The features labelled "A" and "B" are "mating" pins and sockets in the enclosure and they are highlighted here because the pins can be broken if care is not taken during disassembly.

To open the case please use a flat-bladed screwdriver to pop up the top half of the enclosure, prying at the locations marked "D". Try to make the lid lift straight up, rather than allowing it to rotate, so that the pins don't experience shear forces that might cut them off.

Once the enclosure is open you can remove the wheel by unscrewing the screws labelled "C". But there is a catch: the optical fibers are inserted into grooves in the wheel in order to get the transmitting and receiving fibers close to each other. So you may need to pull the fibers away from each other, in order to remove the wheel. This may make the o-ring replacement not practical without returning the device to us for repair. If you are very careful to begin by noting the fiber tip locations at the start, and then returning the fibers to those locations at the end, you may able to do this.

The o-ring we provide is made of "Buna-N" rubber with an inner diameter 0.67" (17mm) and outer diameter 0.95" (24mm). These dimensions are not critical: any o-ring you can find locally with similar dimensions will probably work very well.
