932 System Siting and Provisioning Guide
This guide is preliminary. Please help us improve it by sending us feedback.
There are four main things to consider, indicated by the green boxes in this figure:
1. Fiber Optic Bundle Routing
Best practice is to keep the removable fiber optic bundle as short as possible. For most customers the 55 foot (~17 m) length is adequate, so the most commonly purchased item for this is M/N BNSC-55-12.
Often this can be run directly from the interface unit, through a single feedthrough, to a location near the magnet bore which will allow the 10' (3m) cable on the reponse devices to interchanegably connect to it.
2. Feedthrough sizing and location
The removable bundle is passed through a waveguide into the scanner room. The connectors have an outer diameter of 0.675" (17.3mm), so at least that much clearance is needed.
3. AC Mains
The FIU-932 interface is supplied with a universal power supply. The power supply is wallmount one with a 6' (1.8m) cord, so a receptable will need to be located within 6' of where the interface unit will be placed. It is perfectly acceptable to use a extension cord.
4. Triggering
Most scanners can issue triggers as either optical pulses or TTL signals, and most users want to collect them via the FIU-932 because this gives important timing information about the relation between MRI activities and the subject responses.
For optical triggering the HFBR-RNS010Z cable has a 10m length: this needs to reach from the interface unit to the source of the trigger which is usually located in the equipment room.
For TTL trigger the CB-BNC-SMB-1 cable is rather short: 6' or 1.8m. But it terminates in a BNC and can readily be used with any BNC-BNC cable on hand.
